Incorporated in 1955, the town of South Palm Beach is situated on 56-acres, around 5/8ths of a mile in length, barrier land between the Intracoastal and the Atlantic Ocean on A1A, also referred to as Ocean Blvd or Beachfront Ave.  It neighbors Lake Worth to the North, Hypoluxo Island to the west, and Lantana to the South.  Including seasonal residents, the town of South Palm Beach has approximately 3,000 people.  The year-round population is around 1,471, as reported for April 2020 by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Mostly known as an area for retirees, whether 55+ or all ages, South Palm Beach is advantageous for a variety of different types of homeowners.  There are about 1,780 dwellings within the 20 or so subdivisions, mostly condos, co-ops, and a handful of single-family-homes.  Buildings and homes, constructed anywhere from 1954 to 2019, feature 1-6 bedrooms, 1-7 baths, with total square footage ranging from 96 to 7,725.  Monthly association dues range from $350 to $3,390 and generally cover a variety of maintenance details, security, common areas, and other conveniences.  Whether searching for pet-friendly South Palm Beach communities or waterfront condos for sale, there are options for both, plus more!

Residents of South Palm Beach 55+ enjoy the small town, easy-going, down-to-earth beachy vibe with the option of the big-city hustle and bustle, a hop skip, and a jump away.  Although the city is comparatively small, the city hall offers many easily accessible resources such as art exhibits, a weekly book club, lecture series, town exercise classes, and sea turtle programs.  It is less than a 15-minute drive to Lake Worth, West Palm Beach, and Boynton Beach.  Filled with vibrant, eclectic, culturally stimulating, and exciting downtowns, neighboring cities offer world-class shopping, dining, theater, art, comedy, live music, special events, and many other exciting things to do.

The town is pedestrian-friendly, a short walk to Sunday brunch at the highly revered oceanfront Dune Deck Café overlooking the picturesque Lantana Municipal Beach.  Lantana's beach is a crowd favorite, known for its quaint stature, endless charm, and a rock reef for snorkeling.  The Lantana Nature Preserve is also within walking distance, displaying the magnitude of biodiversity of the Lake Worth Lagoon.  The possibilities are endless for nature enthusiasts, with numerous Palm Beach County parks nearby to explore and Florida State Parks such as John D. MacArthur Beach, around a half-hour drive north.

The area is incredible for golf connoisseurs.  Palm Beach County is home to intricately designed, well-maintained public courses and countless semi-private and private world-class golf clubs and courses.  From South Palm Beach, it is only a short drive to Raymond Floyd Par 3 Golf Course or Lake Worth Golf Club.

History fans can learn more about the area at the numerous Palm Beach County Museums, including the Richard and Pat Johnson PBC History Museum.  When South Palm Beach became a city in 1955, at that time, there were only a handful of condo buildings and a few single-family homes in the north.  The 1970s condominium pop crafted much of what the town is today, yet it has maintained that irresistible old Florida appeal with few commercial ventures.
