Ocean Ridge Lifestyle

Residents of Ocean Ridge 55+ Communities enjoy the best of the Sunshine State, surrounded by water with the Intracoastal to the west and the Mighty Atlantic to the east.  Tucked through a short boardwalk lined with luscious Sea Grape trees, various palms, and other tropical botanicals, Ocean Ridge Hammock Park is a beautiful spot to catch a sunrise and a day at the beach.  Ocean Ridge Natural Area provides 27 acres of Intracoastal land filled with unique ecosystems to explore by foot, boat, or bike.  The maritime hammock and mangrove swamp showcase all three types of protected Mangrove "walking trees" that are unique for turning salt water to fresh from their roots and leaves.  Additionally, there are tons of local, county, and state parks to explore, and the Everglades National Park is an easy day trip, under an hour's drive.  Residents of Ocean Ridge 55+ Communities can also enjoy the Boynton Inlet on the northern border at Ocean Inlet Park.  There is world-class dining, shopping, music, theater, art, gardens, festivals, and cultural events.  As noted on the town's website, "The Mission of the Town of Ocean Ridge is to create and maintain a beautifully landscaped, diverse seaside community built around the family and civic pride, state of the art public services and infrastructure that enhance the natural beauty of our Town." 

History

Major Nathan S Boynton built the Boynton Beach Hotel in 1897, shortly after incorporating Boynton Beach as a municipality in 1920.  In 1931, arguments about beach property taxes and the rising debt building from the City of Boynton Beach, a dozen homesteads established the Town of Boynton Beach.  In 1939, the town held a contest to change the town's name.  The mayor's daughter at the time won, and the Town of Boynton Beach became the Town of Ocean Ridge.
