Lighthouse Point Lifestyle

The quintessential small-town Lighthouse Point 55+ Communities cater to various lifestyles and interests.  There is a genuinely warm, welcoming atmosphere where everybody knows your name.  Comprised of mini lakes, canals, marinas, and offshoot Florida waterways, this is a fantastic spot for boaters.  Explore all homes for sale by adjusting the search perimeters to include boat services.  There is a special spark about the area, and never a dull moment with lots of outdoor exploring to do.  There are many opportunities for bikers and walkers to create their unique routes.  From Lighthouse Point, pedal down to Hillsboro Blvd, over the bridge, and through downtown Deerfield Beach.  Then head south on A1A with the salty breeze off the Atlantic Ocean on your side, down Hillsboro Beach.  The stretch of barrier land between the Intracoastal and Ocean home to Hillsboro Beach often referred to as the Millionaire Mile, offers outstanding views of luxury waterfront homes, expansive yachts, and extravagant boats.  Stop at  Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse, then head over the 14th street bridge to Lighthouse Point.

The Nauti Dawg Marina Cafe is a great spot to grab sangria and brunch, then take a walk around the marina.  Lighthouse Point is home to renowned Cap's Place, a charming top-tiered seafood restaurant and saloon accessible only by a quick boat ride.  Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Cap's Place takes guests back to its roaring rum-running 1920s origins.  Lighthouse Point is in a superb southeast Florida location.  Deerfield Beach surrounds much of the city, mainly to the north, and offers a variety of boutique seaside shopping, dining, events, and adventures, all within biking distance.  After a day of fun in the sun at the "Blue Wave" Beach - a gorgeous stretch of the Atlantic ocean with the Deerfield International Fishin Pier- stop by for a bite at locally owned Charm City, known to offer one of the best burgers in the area.  Slip into the evening with some outdoor live music and refreshments at Kahuna's Bar & Grill, or grab a snack waterfront at JB's On The Beach.

Pompano Beach sits southwest of Lighthouse Point, widely considered a cultural destination, known for cutting-edge art installations, film, music, live performances, and opportunities to learn through classes and workshops.  The Pompano Amphitheater brings in internationally recognized acts and festivals.  The Bailey Contemporary Arts Center offers studios, galleries, exhibitions, and collaboration space.

Residents of Lighthouse Point 55+ Communities enjoy numerous local, city, county, and state parks nearby for recreational use.  City parks such as Dan Witt Park, DeGroff Park, and Frank McDonough Park are great for sports, picnics, and green spaces to relax.  A short drive south takes you to Hugh Taylor Birch State Park in Fort Lauderdale.  Additionally, it's around an hour and a half drive to explore the native Florida wetlands at Everglades National Park and Shark Valley.  Shark Valley is unique, featuring walking trails, tram tours, and biking, with an extraterrestrial-looking observation deck showcasing out-of-this-world views.

History

With a name coined from the nearby 1907 Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse, Lighthouse Point's first residents began settling into the area in the late 1940s.  With only around 600 people living in the perimeters, in June of 1956, Lighthouse Point became a town.  Around a year later, in June of 1957, Lighthouse Point became an official City.  The Lighthouse Point City Clerk's Office is a great place to explore for those intrigued by history.  Additionally, Broward County has a convenient thorough Historic Preservation Program with numerous museums and organizations.
