In the early 1920s, investor J.C. Turner coined Fort Lauderdale the "Venice of America" - a phrase that stuck, still etched on the city seal today. DAVIE
With plentiful ranches and equestrian properties, Davie provides a more rural setting than surrounding cities. The town is located in the Southwest region of Broward County between Plantation and Hollywood on the western border of Fort Lauderdale. As of the 2020 Census, the population of this 35.72 square mile town was 105,691. Lauderhill is a small city of just 8.6 square miles that had a population of 74,482 as of the 2020 Census. Plantation is a city on the western border of Fort Lauderdale in Broward County where "the grass is greener." The population in this 22 square mile city was 91,750 as of the 2020 Census. The active adult residences are a mix of single-family homes around 1,300 SqFt with a Mid Century Modern design and affordable condos with one to two bedrooms. Plantation offers abundant green space with 42 parks totaling 642 acres and six golf courses. The city features great public transportation and proximity to major interstates as well as the Fort Lauderdale/Holywood International Airport. POMPANO BEACH
Pompano Beach is located along the northern border of Fort Lauderdale. The city comprises just under 25 square miles extending from the shoreline to the Turnpike. As of the 2020 census, the population was 112,046 with 19.3% of the population 65 years of age or older. Most Pompano Beach 55+ Communities are condos located on or near the beach. Leisureville is the exception with single-family homes situated near I-95. While Pompano has long been considered a more affordable option compared to Fort Lauderdale, the Community Redevelopment Agency has been hard at work revamping the city in recent years. Shipwreck Park is home to sixteen sunken ships that serve as artificial reefs where divers can observe a wide variety of marine life. Aside from beautiful beaches and great diving, Pompano also offers the Isle Casino Pompano, Festival Marketplace, and the Pompano Beach Amphitheater. The city hosts regularly scheduled community events including the Annual MLK Golf Championship, Caribbean Fest, the monthly Amplify Wellness Market, and Music Bingo.
